Hand Assembly

For through-hole and mixed technology assembly, Spectra-Tech has highly efficient slide-lines for drop-in placement. Our skilled technicians work from detailed documentation, assuring a consistent and accurate drop-in process with maximum flexibility to manage customized builds, prototypes, and all change requests.

Wave Soldering

The wave solder process is utilized for large-scale lead soldering of circuit boards after the placement of through hole components has been completed.

Selective Soldering Machine

Spectra-Tech’s two advanced ERSA selective soldering machines use programmable solder pots for both leaded and lead free (RoHS) point-to-point soldering. This provides a critical advantage by performing intricate solder connections that previously required hand soldering – resulting in greater speed, accuracy and quality.

X-Ray

X-ray has become a critical process in the electronic manufacturing services industry with the development of components such as:

  • uBGAs
  • CSPs
  • CCGAs
  • BGAs (including double sided)
  • 0201s
  • QFNs

Water Wash

If your product has specific cleanliness requirements, Spectra-Tech utilizes a Stoelting water wash system with Zestron saponifier to ensure all fluxes and or contaminants are removed from products. This process is a key factor when conformal coating is required.

Hand Soldering

Spectra-Tech performs hand soldering for products with specialized soldering requirements. This includes prototype production, special customization and lead-free applications. All of our soldering personnel are certified to the latest industry standards including: IPC J-STD-001 for Soldering and IPC 7711 /7721 for Rework / Modifications.

Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI)

Spectra-Tech utilizes automated optical inspection (AOI) within our manufacturing process. This system uses cameras to scan products for defects such as missing, incorrect, incorrectly placed components as well as solder related defects. AOI operators are trained and certified to IPC-A-610 standards.

Functional Testing

Functional tests can be performed on custom test fixtures or customer-supplied test stations and verify that the circuit board meets the customers’ specifications and will work in the final application.

In-Circuit Testing (ICT)

Spectra-Tech can perform full In-Circuit Testing (ICT) using our SPEA 4030 Flying probe tester which measures each electronic component to verify that it is the correct value. Utilizing the flying probe test method also eliminates the need to invest in expensive test fixtures, while offering diagnostic capabilities not available in other test methods.

Conformal Coating

If your product requires conformal coating, Spectra-Tech can meet your demands with a wide range of coatings including acrylics, urethanes, UV curable, and silicones. We utilize a Nordson SL-940E Select Coat Machine along with dip, spray and brush coating methods for applying conformal coating. The purpose of conformal coating is to protect electronic circuits from harsh environments that may contain moisture and or chemical contaminants. By being electrically insulating, it maintains long-term surface insulation resistance (SIR) levels and thus ensures the operational integrity of the assembly. It also provides a barrier to air-borne contaminants from the operating environment, such as salt spray, thus preventing corrosion.
